English League One
Friday night saw Anthony Forde of Oxford United take on Anthony Scully of Lincoln City. Scully and Lincoln struck first as the Irishman bundled the ball home in the 4th minute to mark his 12th goal of the campaign. Forde and Oxford responded 25 minutes later after Lincoln failed to clear a corner and were punished by the former Wolves man who found the back of the net. Oxford scored the winner in the second-half to seal all three points.
March 27th
English League One
From the Anthony’s to the Aiden’s on Saturday afternoon where there was another victory on the board for Sunderland. Aiden McGeady’s corner was converted by Aiden O’Brien in the 39th minute to give the Black Cats the lead and eventual win against Bristol Rovers. Sunderland are now up to third in the league and can leapfrog both Peterborough United and Hull City if they win their games in hand.
Portsmouth won their second game on the bounce and move back into the top six. Marcus Harness also scored his second goal in as many games as he opened the scoring for Portsmouth in the 2-1 victory over Shrewsbury Town with an excellent finish from just inside the box.
There was also a fourth consecutive win for MK Dons against promotion hopefuls Doncaster Rovers. Warren O’Hora started at the back in the 1-0 victory.
English League Two
In League Two, Bolton are now unbeaten in 13 games — the longest run from any team among England’s top four divisions — after beating Forest Green Rovers 1-0. Eoin Doyle is a man on a mission towards the 20+ mark in terms of goals scored. He netted his 16th of the season to ensure all three points went to Wanderers.
Another Irishman in-form is Leyton Orient’s Conor Wilkinson. The 26-year-old has averaged a goal per game from his last three outings. Orient beat Oldham Athletic 2-1 with Wilkinson scoring the first of the game, firing it in from the tightest of angles after a mistake at the back from Oldham.
Liam McAlinden scored his first goal of the season in Morecambe’s win over Cheltenham Town. The striker kept himself onside before latching onto a flick-on and burying it past the Cheltenham keeper.
The final Irish goal of the day came in the Tranmere Rovers vs Mansfield Town game. Midfielder Stephen Quinn equalized for Mansfield in the 76th minute with a cracking volley into the top corner.
A third successive victory means Cambridge Town remain in top spot. Wes Hoolahan turned provider in this fixture, setting up Adam May for a 90th minute winner against Carlisle United.
Australian A-League
Roy O’Donovan scored Newcastle Jets’ only goal in a 2-1 defeat to Andy Keogh’s Perth Glory.
March 30th
Scottish League Two
Luca Connell’s good form continued for Queens Park on the back of his impressive display in Ireland U-21’s win against Wales. The midfielder scored one and set up another in a 3-0 win over Albion Rovers. Connell found the bottom corner from outside the box to double the lead after 30 minutes with a terrific strike.
March 31st
English League One
In Wednesday evening’s only game, Gillingham were 1-0 winners against Wigan Athletic. Thomas O’Connor started at left-back for Gillingham in a victory that takes them up to sixth in the league.
